Description
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — Two East Providence men will run in this year's Boston Marathon.
The 2022 race is the first to be held on the traditional Patriots Day date since 2019.
In East Providence, Maurice Lowman, 43, and John Ponte, 50 are registered for the race. Lowman will once again run for Rett Syndrome awareness and research.
Last year, Lowman finished with a time of 4 hours, 27 minutes and 58 seconds in October's marathon, while raising more than $14,000 for the Rett Syndrome Association of Massachusetts. He ran that time, while wearing a blazer and dress pants, to draw more attention to the cause.
He said he might wear a suit again, but is hoping to get a purple on this year to match the color of Team Rhett.
"I just have a ton of gratitude for the role as a charity runner," Lowman said. "To be able to be part of a community for those who can't run and give a voice to those in the community is a privilege."
