PLAINFIELD, IL — Offering residents a chance to learn about their local police department and its officers' duties, the Plainfield Police Department has opened registration for its free Citizen's Police and Fire Academy for which classes start March 29. Crime scene processing or how the fire department gets people out of a car after a crash are just two of the elements that will be discussed during the 12-week program, officials said Tuesday. Starting March 29 through June 14, the group will meet weekly from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at various locations throughout Plainfield. The classes, which are free to attend, are taught by personnel from the Plainfield police, fire and ambulance departments. Sessions will include both lecture and hands-on learning. Registration is open until 5 p.m. March 22. A total of 25 spots are available, so police officials are encouraging residents to apply as soon as possible. Applications are available online — which can then be emailed to Officer Brett Keag — and can also be picked up between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Plainfield Police Department, 14300 Coil Plus Drive. For additional information, interested residents can contact Keag at 815-267-7207.
