Press release from DreamBridge Foundation: March 1, 2022 On Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Windham High School in Windham, NH, hundreds of participants are expected to attend the Blazing New Trails 5K and Family Fun Event to benefit Jim Harvey and the Harvey family. The Dreambridge Foundation, Granite State Race Services and friends and family of Jim Harvey are hosts and chipped start times are available for serious runners, as well as the option to take a more casual stroll or jog. Event planners are working to include food trucks, a kids race, relay course, and other activities for the whole family! Jim's greatest joy has been spending time with his family, sharing his passion for outdoor sports and adventure, and coaching youth athletics. For years Jim has been heavily invested in his community, actively chairing and spending time as board member for several local organizations, always willing to give back to those around him. As an avid mountain biker and athlete, Jim spent many mornings on the trails before work, and in late summer 2021 Jim sustained a severe spinal cord injury at C6/7. That morning a typical New England family changed forever. With the immense support of friends, family, and the surrounding community, Jim, his wife Alicia, and their two children are planning to remain in their current home. The Harveys have deep ties in Windham, NH and they will continue to make adaptive changes to minimize the impact to their family. Jim's most critical needs moving forward include the day-to-day resources necessary to improve his health, strength, and independence. According to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, the cost for the Harveys of the first year of treatment is estimated to be $769,351 and each subsequent year is estimated to be $113,423. Our goal is to help alleviate the financial hardship of Jim's injury which includes the cost of caregivers, strength and rehabilitation programs, mobility assistance devices, and adaptive equipment. While these costs are staggering, they are crucial to improve the overall health and wellness of the entire Harvey family. Even with this life-changing injury, Jim continues to look for the positives and approaches his rehabilitation with true grit, courage, and resilience.
