Community and Planning Services staff will present the updated draft virtually during the Missoula Consolidated Planning Board meetings at 6 p.m. on the following Tuesdays: March 1 March 15 We hope to you can join one of the meetings! The Missoula County Commissioners last week made a recommendation to the Federal Highway Administration to remove the Maclay Bridge over the Bitterroot River if the South Avenue Bridge is constructed. Missoula County is working to complete the categorical exclusion for the proposed South Avenue Bridge Project, which is the key documentation disclosing project impacts and mitigation. As part of that process, the county commissioners needed to provide a recommendation regarding the future of the existing Maclay Bridge if the new South Avenue Bridge is constructed.  "This is simply a recommendation to a federal agency that's involved in reviewing and approving the NEPA documents for the proposed South Avenue Bridge Project," said Shane Stack, Public Works director. Listen to the full episode at www.buzzsprout.com/1846183/10132740 Earlier this month, the Missoula Board of County Commissioners traveled to Washington, D.C. to join nearly 2,000 elected and appointed county government officials from across the country at the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference. The conference focused on federal policy issues that impact counties and was an opportunity for the commissioners to engage in policy and educational sessions. They interacted with federal officials and participated in congressional briefings and meetings, and they even heard from President Biden, who once served as a county leader. Not all counties operate the same way, and each are governed by different state statutes. In this conference and learning interesting insights from other county leaders. They share new perspectives and exciting ideas they heard about housing in mountain communities, including the value in building diverse neighborhoods and the concept of using deed restrictions in Missoula County to help keep the cost of housing from escalating. And, for those who listen to the end, you'll hear some exciting passenger rail news. I work with all departments, and I love that every day I get to see how hard everyone works to support each other and our community. In September 2021, the commissioners signed a resolution establishing Missoula County's commitment to a just, equitable, diverse and inclusive county. This resolution is the framework for my work, and in the past year I've been doing the groundwork to establish the JEDI Office, which has included a lot of meetings with not only county staff but community partners that are the fabric of Missoula County. I collaborate with staff to review documents and policies to help Missoula County foster an environment where our employees feel respected, valued and empowered, and our team is at the forefront in helping us promote and sustain an inclusive workplace. I'm fortunate to be joined by our JEDI Fellow Rozlyn Hayley, who's helping provide administrative and research support for our efforts. Our work is dedicated to creating an inclusive work environment where all our employees and those we engage with are respected, valued, honored and welcomed. We embrace and celebrate the unique identities, experiences, perspectives and cultural backgrounds that each employee brings to our workplace.
