LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 6-year-old boy who sustained serious head injuries after authorities say he was beaten by his mother's boyfriend has died. The boy's mother rushed him to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville on Feb. 21 after she found her son lying on the floor of the home she shares with her boyfriend, Tracy D. Thomas, in the 1300 block of Melrose Avenue in Round Lake Beach, according to a news release from the Round Lake Beach Police Department. Staff members at Condell called police at about 4 p.m. Monday to investigate the child's "significant head trauma," according to authorities. The boy was transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he later died, authorities said. Investigators say Thomas intentionally hurt the boy, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Thomas turned himself into police on Thursday, police said. He has been charged with aggravated battery and aggravated domestic battery, but upgraded charges are expected now that the child has died, authorities said. Thomas' bail has been set at $500,000.
