DOYLESTOWN, PA — Doylestown's outdoor shopping and dining program rendering the borough a "Pedestrian Zone" on warm weekends is returning with new dates for street closures.
The Doylestown Borough Council announced the program's return Tuesday, saying the 2022 pedestrian zones will start cropping up in mid-April and continue through late October.
Pedestrian zones offer "the rare experience to walk down historic Doylestown streets, free of vehicles."
Parts of the borough's East State, West State, and Main streets will close to traffic on Friday and Saturday evenings on a rotating basis, letting local businesses expand into the street and bringing community members out to play. This year, the fun will begin with "Restaurant Row" on West State Street, Apr. 8-9.
The zones will close to traffic between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., with the last seating for dining at 10 p.m. Downtown parking is free after 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and available at the County Parking Facility at Broad and East Court for a modest fee.
Although originally part of the borough's Operation Doylestown pandemic response, the program has now become a community favorite.
"We hope that you'll join us in 2022!" the borough council said.
