CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A 13-year-old boy from Orland Hills was shot in the legs Wednesday afternoon in Chicago Heights, police have confirmed. Law enforcement in Chicago Heights had two people in custody and now one has been charged in connection with the shooting they say began as an "armed robbery involving narcotics." Police who were called to the area on a "shots fired" call said they found the young victim in the 300 block of West 14th Street around 3:13 p.m. on April 8 with gunshot wounds to both legs. Residents in the area reported a heavy police presence along Route 30 at the time. A 26-year-old man from Chicago and 25-year-old University Park man were taken into custody, with police filing an unlawful use of a weapon by felon charge against the 26-year-old now identified as Tevin Ford of the 7100 block of South California in the city's Marquette Park neighborhood. The victim was aided by the Chicago Heights Fire Department paramedic unit and taken to Franciscan Health Olympia Fields for more treatment, police said. His condition wasn't known as of Thursday afternoon. Ford was scheduled to appear at the Markham Courthouse for a bond hearing on Thursday.
