Press release from the Multnomah County District Attorney: February 28, 2022 Contact: Elisabeth Shepard, Communications Director [email protected] Grand Jury returns not true bill in January 4, 2022 fatal shooting by an officer PORTLAND, Oregon – Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that upon the conclusion of the presentation of evidence, a grand jury returned a not true bill and found the use of force by a Gresham Police Officer and a Multnomah County Sheriff's Deputy that resulted in the death of  Roman Kokhanevych, 24 was not criminal under Oregon law.  Previously released information regarding this incident can be found by clicking here.  Due to the ongoing criminal case against a co-defendant in the underlying incident, only the parties to the criminal case are permitted to access the grand jury recordings.
