Andrew Chong UIUC student was born in 1998 in Seoul, Korea, but spend most of his life in the United States. When he was two months old, his family moved to the U.S., where he grew up in Silicon Valley. During his stay, he had developed an interest in cello and tennis, which continue to be his favorite hobbies to this day. Besides investing in himself, he also strives hard to create a difference in the world with his humanity. Andrew Chong UIUC Being a passionate cello player, Andrew Chong UIUC was afforded many opportunities to participate in many music competitions. Soon, he became the most outstanding and celebrated musician of his graduating class. As a result, The King’s Academy awarded him the Missy Belton Scholarship after recognizing his exponential growth and contribution to music. As time went by, Andrew Chong UIUC student also started to develop a profound interest in humanitarian work and studies during his time at The King’s Academy. With his sense of affection and responsibility towards society, he proactively practices his humanity in creating a difference. He voluntarily reaches out to distressed countries and citizens and offers a helping hand to survive the catastrophic situations like a flood. Additionally, The King’s Academy afforded Andrew Chong UIUC student multiple service trips to Tecate, Mexico, to help devastated and homeless families rebuild their houses and to hold English classes. The annual trips were driven to provide both emotional and physical support to people in need. With the King’s Academy, Andrew Chong UIUC student also held a “Kids Club” for the children, ran soccer camps, and had an active partnership with the local church to maintain a strong bond with the community. He cherishes the relationships built at these receptions on those trips. To date, Andrew Chong UIUC student expresses the warmth he felt while serving the residents of Tecate and the memories they made as a team. That being said, Andrew Chong UIUC student continues to visit Tecate to enhance the sustainability of the people whenever possible. Even after graduating from The King’s Academy, Andrew Chong UIUC student consistently adds value and works in the direction of fulfilling his humanitarian goals. For instance, when Paraguay suffered heavily from the floods, and more than 130,000 people had to leave their homes, Andrew Chong UIUC student, traveled to the country to volunteer help the countrymen struggling through life in a dire state. The rise of the Paraguay river had forced 90,000 residents of Asunción to abandon their homes. During those adversities, Andrew Chong UIUC student helped associations to build disposable wooden houses on the outskirts of the capital, and in other parts of the country. Once the construction of the houses was over, they tried to address the next biggest problem, supplies. Andrew Chong UIUC student felt in his heart, that organized assistance could be a key savior during times of panic and chaos. As a result, during his stay in Lambaré, he offered help to organize the distribution of food, clothes, and necessities for the flood victims. When looking back, Andrew Chong UIUC students says, “The time I spent in Paraguay during these hard times cemented my desire to keep pursuing humanitarian goals for as long as I’m able to, and I remain in contact with many great people that I’ve met during these events.” His actions truly reflect his humanitarian insights and amplify the importance of introducing good in society. With his exceptional journey as a humanitarian leader, he remains a true inspiration to today’s youth.
