The incumbent is responsible for the general care and upkeep of golf tees, fairways, bunkers, hazards, putting greens, golf flags, sand traps, and other facilities on golf courses, lawn bowling greens, and other special lawn areas.  Oversees and guides lower level employees in the cutting and watering of course. Helps in diagnosing lawn and grass diseases, and applies proper curative treatments. Rakes sand traps, and replaces with fresh sand as may be required. May operate a variety of vehicles and or tractors, using attachments to till, cultivate and grade new turf areas.  Cuts turf on green and tee areas using hand and power mower.  Connects hose and sprinkler systems at designated points to irrigate turf. Ensures areas are policed and that trash and garbage are disposed of properly. Performs other related duties as assigned. Operates large industrial power push mower and riding type mower.  Adjust blades for cutting height, prepare fuel mixtures for powered equipment and cleans and lubricates mower.  Trims, prunes, and cuts trees, bushes and plants. Uses various hand tools, such as, shovels, hoes, rakes, hoes, and pruning shears. Assists with the general clean-up and maintenance of grass areas, planted areas, parking lots, vacant lots and recreation areas, by removing trash, weeds, and cutting back brush.  May operate motor vehicle to get from one work area to another, transporting supplies/equipment and other workers. Performs routine maintenance procedures for power equipment, conducts safety visual check, lubricates, cleans/replaces air filters, and adds fuel. Performs other miscellaneous tasks as required such as hand watering, weed trimming applying seed or fertilizer to grasses and plants.  May be required to lay sod, plant flowers and shrubs. *Incumbent regularly is required to perform medium to heavy physical effort that require walking, crouching, reaching, lifting and bending.  May be required to lift materials over 40 pounds, which require use of hand trucks or dollies.
