GILROY, CA — A Gilroy man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an officer on Saturday, South San Francisco police said. Officers responding to a report of someone trying to circulate counterfeit bills at a hotel on the 600 block of Gateway Blvd. at around 11 a.m. said Gary Lombardo provided them with a wrong name and intentionally struck an officer in the leg with his skateboard when he tried to run away. A female driver believed to be associated withe Lombardo tried to block officers in their pursuit, but Lombardo eventually tripped and was arrested, police said. Lombardo suffered minor injuries from the fall but was taken into custody after receiving medical clearance, police said. Lombardo, 37, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, resisting arrest, and a parole violation police said. He was booked into county jail. The officer received medical treatment for a leg injury and was released from a local hospital according to police. The identity of the driver who police believe is associated with Lombardo is not known, police said. She was driving a silver Kia Soul that police said was believed to be stolen.
