From the City of St. Louis Park: January 02, 2020 The City of St. Louis Park will be receiving a $30,000 grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for citywide tree planting to combat Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). The goal of this grant is to increase tree species diversity, increase tree canopy in areas where canopy was minimal or non-existent, and to counter ash tree removal losses. All the trees paid for through this grant will be planted in the spring and fall of 2020. What is the Emerald Ash Borer? The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive beetle that has quickly become one of the most destructive and costly forest insects in urban forest history. Effects of the EAB EAB larvae feed on the inner bark of ash trees, which disrupts the tree's ability to transport water and nutrients.
