GILROY, CA — Gilroy's new mayor and council members were sworn at Monday night's virtual City Council meeting.
Marie Blankley was elected the South Bay city's second woman mayor last month.
"I'm proud to have this opportunity to lead the town that I love through the bumpy road ahead," Blankley said according to a Gilroy Dispatch report.

Roberta Hughan was the Gilroy's first woman mayor, The Dispatch reports. She served from 1983-1991.
Rebeca Armendariz, Zach Hilton, Fred Tovar and Carol Marquez were sworn in as council members at Monday's meeting.
Armendariz and Hilton are new to the council. Tovar won reelection and Marques was appointed to fill a vacancy after finishing second in her.
The council presented plaques at the meeting to outgoing Mayor Roland Velasco and outgoing council members Cat Tucker and Marques.
Marques was appointed to fill Blankley's seat on the council after she was sworn in as mayor.
