GILROY, CA — Gavilan College reported three new coronavirus cases last week, bringing the number of cases confirmed by the school since the start of the pandemic to 12, The Gilroy Dispatch reports. A spokeswoman for the college confirmed the new cases in an email to staff and students last week according to the report. Jan Bernstein-Chargin said in the email that the students were last seen at the school's Gilroy or San Martin on Dec. 4, and that the cases are not believed to be related, the report said. The report follows an announcement by the school's Superintendent/President Dr. Kathleen Rose in a Dec. 8 newsletter announcing the cancellation of a planned Drive-in Graduation Celebrating for 122 students amid the recent surge. "Please know that we explored every possible option before coming to this decision," Rose said according to the report. "At this point, we don't know when we will be able to schedule a traditional graduation ceremony again but when we do, hopefully May 2021, the Class of 2020 will be invited to participate."
