Description
To me, Jane's Addiction is where I'd really loved to have seen jambands go.
What the genre needs isn't necessarily more sterile jazz fusion, it's a holistic spiritual revival. Vivid, animalistic, savage. Even in quiet moments, there can be intensity and suspense. Whatever brings the listener somewhere else entirely, insistent and irrefutable.
Virtuosity is of course crucial and necessary, a group has to absolutely Shred if it's to be worthwhile. So long as it's done with passion and intent.
Phish, Slift, The Mars Volta, Sigur Ros, Santana, Frog Brigade, Aphrodite's Child, Sepultura, Stars of the Lid...y'know, confluent vibes all around.
I play bass. Often with ridiculous ambient layers of effects but just as often with none at all. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
