Donation to Merced County Food Bank will provide 12,000 meals to the community – 120,000 in total on the W. Coast Family-owned Foster Farms today distributed more than 800 Thanksgiving turkeys – close to 5 tons – to Merced families. Merced County Food Bank was one of many sites throughout California where locals received a turkey just in time for the holiday. The turkeys will be distributed in the coming weeks to help provide 12,000 meals in the Merced area this Thanksgiving. The California company has been donating Thanksgiving turkeys throughout the West Coast for several years. Earlier in the pandemic, Foster Farms donated to Merced County Food Bank enough chicken to provide more than 130,000 meals to individuals in need. “We hope that our turkey donations will help bring a sense of normalcy to the thousands of California, Oregon and Washington families in need this Thanksgiving,” said Ira Brill, vice president of communications for Foster Farms. “We must continue to find ways to social distance and be safe, but nobody should be denied participating in this tradition because of the economic impact of COVID-19. We ask everyone that can to join us by donating to food banks in their local communities.” This was just one of Foster Farms’ many deliveries to food banks and community organizations up and down the West Coast this month, where the company donated enough turkey to feed more than 120,000 individuals in need from San Diego to Seattle. Now in its 12th year, Foster Farms’ turkey donation program has provided Thanksgiving turkey for more than one million people. Foster Farms hopes its donations will encourage other businesses and individuals to join them in contributing to their local food banks this holiday season and beyond.
