Description

Women Who Care each commit to donate $100 every quarter ($400/year) to a charity we choose as a group by vote. We are Women Who Care of Durham County and this is our first quarterly meeting! Our Mission is To Be The Change We Wish to See In Our Community. $100 at a time. Based on a simple philanthropic concept gaining momentum throughout the country, Women Who Care of Durham County (WWCDC) is a newly formed group of caring women who meet for one hour, four times a year to benefit our local community. Any woman willing to commit to donating $400 a year, $100 given out at four one-hour meetings can join. Donations will be given to local charities, nonprofit organizations or other “worthy causes” serving the Durham community. Any member can request donations to a favorite charity. WHAT DOES A MEETING LOOK LIKE? At each quarterly meeting, members with a charity nomination put their name in a hat. Three names are drawn at random and those three members each have 5 minutes to talk about their charity. Members then vote for one of the three charities and the majority rules. Checks for $100 from each member are written directly to the organization chosen. At future meetings, organizations that have received funding will be asked to provide 10 minute presentations about the impact of the donation. We are committed to show the value of your time - meetings will not go over 1 hour! Nominated organizations should be a registered 501c3, and one within Durham County limits. HOW TO NOMINATE A CHARITY Come prepared to enter the charity's name and your name into the drawing at the beginning of the meeting, 3 charities will then be drawn for presentations. If chosen, you will present (5 minutes) on the charity, what they do, and what the money would be used for. Must be a charity in Durham County limits and be a registered 501(c)3.Ensure that you know how checks should be made out for that particular organization.Have a contact person at the organization. After the 3 presentation, a vote will be taken of those in attendance and a charity will be chosen. Majority wins.WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! Come join like-minded women who want to be the change we wish to see in our community. It takes only one hour four times per year and other chapters have made significant strides in their communities. We are excited to bring this concept to the Durham area! Please pass on the word! The more, the merrier...and the more money donated. Please share this event with anyone you think may be interested in attending. - In accordance with the city mandate, masks will be required at the meeting, even for those who are fully vaccinated. - Durham, NC chapter founded in 2022 by Dot Adcock, Rachel Gessouroun, Kris Selig and Anna Murphy.
