Bach Ascending is a new Savannah concert series that centers on Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Bach’s music has inspired composers and performers for hundreds of years, and Bach Ascending seeks to spread a joyful understanding of how broad and enduring his music still is today.
Our concerts are open to anyone for FREE, so that we can remove any hurdles for every person who wants to attend. The series is only possible through the generosity of our patrons, supporters, and sponsors.
Bach composed his music in Leipzig Germany for a Lutheran church, and our primary venue is the historic Lutheran Church of the Ascension, located on Wright Square. In fact, the church itself was founded in 1741 when Bach was still alive, and it has played a prominent role in Savannah’s musical and cultural life.
