Man, 43, Gets Nearly 3 Years In Prison On Gun, Drug Case: Feds

NEW HAVEN, CT —Theo Sargent, 43, of New Haven, was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 33 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute crack and gun possession by a felon, federal prosecutors said. The prison bid will be followed by three years of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney for Connecticut said. The Justice Department said that according to court documents and statements made in court, on May 10, 2019, New Haven Police conducted a court-authorized search of Sargent's Quinnipiac Avenue home. Investigators seized three handguns, more than 300 rounds of ammunition, approximately 20 grams of crack, quantities of marijuana and MDMA, and items used to process and package narcotics for street sale, federal prosecutors said. Sargent was arrested on state charges on that date. Also known as "Ciph," Sargent's criminal history includes state convictions for felony drug and firearm offenses, per the U.S. Attorney. It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce. On October 19, 2021, Sargent pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of possession with intent to distribute crack and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Released on a $100,000 bond, Sargent must report to prison April 20. The ATF and New Haven Police Department investigated the case, part of the Justice Department's Project Safe Neighborhoods.
