PAROLE, MD — A new salon opened recently in the Westfield Annapolis mall. The beauty parlor, named Salon M double U, specializes in Balck hair care. The business held its grand opening on Feb. 19. The event included a presentation on the history of African-American hair care. "Congratulations to Salon m double u on your grand opening and on hosting a wonderful celebration of the history of Black hair care," County Executive Steuart Pittman said on Facebook after attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony. "Anne Arundel County is proud to have your business as the newest edition to Westfield Annapolis." The presentation featured: Sasha Turnbo: Niece of Annie Turnbo Malone, a pioneer in the African-American beauty industryBarry Fletcher: Hair designer, author, product creator for Black hair care Other guests included: Carl Snowden: Convener of the Caucus of African American Leaders of Anne Arundel CountyGavin Buckley: Mayor of the City Of AnnapolisShaneka Henson: State delegate for Maryland District 30A "Your grand opening ceremony reminded us of the [importance] of Black hair care and entrepreneurship," Henson said on Facebook.
