ANNAPOLIS, MD — A criminal justice project helped free an Annapolis student's friend from prison, Davidson College announced this month. Brandon Harris and Sura Sohna grew up as buddies in the state capital, but they followed different paths. The school said Harris went to college and Sohna went to prison after several convictions of first-degree burglary. Harris contacted all 12 of Sohna's victims, interviewed the prosecutor and spoke with Sohna's relatives. This was part of Harris' independent study project, titled "Telling Stories of the Ignored and Forgotten." The initiative led a judge to re-evaluate Sohna's case and free him from prison 12 years early on Feb. 8, author Danielle Strickland wrote. "The whole thing is amazing," Sohna said, according to Davidson College. "I had a rough time growing up, and I will never forget my trials, but everything is a learning experience. Now, I want to be a lifelong learner and lift others up as I lift myself up. I know greatness is in me." To learn more about the project, check out the full story from Davidson College.
