HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Parents concerned about their children's social media use may not have realized the nightmares that have happened because of TikTok stardom. That is, unless they've read about Ava Majury, 15, a New Jersey native whose father killed a man last summer accused of stalking the family at their current home in Florida. Ava and her family finally opened up last week about the events of the past year in order to warn others, the teen said on social media: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ava Majury (@ava.majury) "I could never have imagined my innocent posts would result in a stranger showing up at my front door with a shotgun," wrote Majury, 15. The major details of the case came to light last week when Ava's family gave the New York Times an extensive account of her rise to fame during the lockdown in 2020 — and the troubles she's had with teens who've stalked her and bought photos of her, even from classmates. Most disturbingly, her father, a retired Jersey City police lieutenant who moved his family of five from Manalapan to Florida in 2019, admittedly shot and killed an 18-year-old man on his property last July, according to the Times account. Ava posted a followup last week asking people not to blame victims of stalking: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ava Majury (@ava.majury) The Times story says that Florida has a "stand your ground" law, so former Lt. Robert Majury will probably not be subject to prosecution. The disturbing case doesn't end there. The Marjury family claims at least one of Ava's classmates gave information to the stalker, and Ava was set to file an injunction early this week. Ava has more than 300,000 followers on her main account. Read more of the New York Times story here.
