LIVERMORE, CA — California Highway Patrol officers arrested a suspect they believe is responsible for two freeway shootings Sunday, the department said in a news release. One shooting took place on I-580 west, just north of North Livermore Avenue. Armando Perez, 24, of Hayward, was booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and assault with a deadly weapon, the CHP Golden Gate Division said. CHP Valley Division is expected to file separate charges. On Sunday at around 11:44 a.m., CHP-Dublin Area officers responded to a freeway shooting on westbound I-580, just west of North Livermore Avenue. Officers found a male occupant of a white Dodge pickup truck with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was transported to Eden Medical Center for treatment. Westbound lanes were closed until about 12:45 p.m. Sunday, according to 511 SF. Helicopter video appeared to show two damaged vehicles on the side of the freeway. CHP said that the suspect, who immediately fled the scene, was identified as a solo man driving a brown sedan. At approximately 11:56 a.m., CHP officers located the suspect vehicle on westbound I-580 near Strobridge Avenue, and took the driver into custody. Investigators linked the suspect to an earlier freeway shooting that had occurred at around 11:15 a.m. on westbound I-205, near I-5, where one victim was critically injured. The CHP Valley Division Investigative Services Unit is investigating that incident, while the Golden Gate's Sepcial Investigations Unit continues to investigate the shooting near Livermore. Perez's motives are still under investigation. Anyone with information on either of these shootings is asked to contact the CHP Investigation Tip Line at 707-917-4491.
