Press release from Dr. Kalyan Sandesara's Office: Feb. 27, 2022 Dr. Kalyan Sandesara, MD is retiring on February 28, 2022, after 37 years caring for the children of the North and West Side. Since opening his solo practice on July 1, 1984, Dr. Sandesara has seen tens of thousands of patients during nearly three hundred thousand visits. He has cared for children and even grandchildren of some of his original patients, comprising hundreds of extended families. His patients represent the diversity of Chicago, being over 90% Hispanic and African-American with a significant number of immigrant families, and receive compassionate medical care regardless of ability to pay. All of his patients are given his personal cell phone number and are encouraged to call him day or night. Even patients who have moved as far away as Michigan or Texas still come back for annual visits. Finally, in an age of ever-larger and impersonal healthcare, Dr. Sandesara has remained a solo practitioner–covering all of his overnight phone calls, ER visits, hospital admissions, and newborn babies by himself–for his entire career. His dedicated office staff has been with him every step of the way, with tenures ranging from 21 to 36 years. His patients are passionate about his care, and heartbroken about his retirement. They say: "I can't express enough how grateful I am to have found Dr. Sandesara. He is so kind, very patient and is very thorough during our appointments. The nurses are all so wonderful. I feel confident having such wonderful people taking care of my children when they aren't feeling well." –Mari Sol "Amazing Pediatrician! He was my pediatrician and is now my two kid's pediatrician. The staff is also super friendly and Dr. Sandesara and his staff are always willing to answer and help us out with any questions we may have." –Stephanie Zamorano "Friendly staff and a great pediatrician. He has been my pediatrician since I was born till today. Eighteen years! That is how good of a doctor he is. Highly recommended!" –Sylvia Magdaleno After completing his medical degree from Baroda Medical College in Vadodara, India, he immigrated by himself to Chicago in 1981; his wife Jyoti followed a year later. He completed a residency in pediatrics at the now-closed Columbus-Cuneo-Cabrini Medical Center in Lincoln Park. He has been affiliated with AMITA Saints Mary & Elizabeth Medical Center, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Norwegian American Hospital, Saint Anthony Hospital, and Grant Hospital. His two sons have also followed him into medicine, one as a palliative care physician in Los Angeles, and one as an emergency room physician in North Carolina.
