State Recognizes Westlake Schools With Award

WESTLAKE, OH — The Westlake Schools were recognized this week by the State Board of Education for achieving high performance, outstanding progress and momentum for students benchmarks on the annual state report cards. Westlake is one of only 27 school districts across the state to receive an Overall A Award for their work. The Overall A Award goes to districts that received an overall "A" grade on the State Report Card. Bassett Elementary and Lee Burneson Middle schools are among 209 Ohio schools that also received Overall A Awards. This is the second year Lee Burneson has earned the award. Lee Burneson is one of 173 schools to earn the board's Momentum Award for exceeding expectations in student growth for the year. The Westlake Schools also received the award. To qualify, districts and schools must earn straight A's on all Value-Added measure on the state report card. In September, Westlake Schools received an overall A on the report card and the following grades on each section: Achievement — BProgress — AGap closing — AGraduation rate — AImproving at-risk K-3 readers — NRPrepared for success — C"We're proud of our students, staff and community. This is just one measure we use to annually reflect on our performance. We will continue to work toward our mission of striving for excellence in education for all students," said Westlake Superintendent Scott Goggin when the report card was released.
