BURR RIDGE, IL — A Burr Ridge trustee spoke recently about the issue of "inaccurate rumors" on social media that he said can harm the village's business environment, according to village records.
Trustee Tony Schiappa brought up the issue at this month's meeting of the Economic Development Committee, meeting minutes show.
Schiappa said a hotel manager told him about a social media rumor that alleged "adult activities" at the hotel. The manager said the rumor was inaccurate and harmed the business' reputation, Schiappa said.
Schiappa recommended that "they speak to the Police Department to see if there was anything they could do about their concerns or just to document them," according to the minutes.
Schiappa said social media rumors affect other businesses in the area.
Schiappa did not return an emailed message for comment on Sunday. Months ago, he announced on Facebook that he would not return messages from Patch's local reporter.
