Job Summary Supervises enforcement duties involving general and criminal regulations and institutional rules and regulations in order to provide for the protection, safety, and welfare of students, employees and property within the areas under the control and authorized jurisdiction of the agency. Provides mentoring, leadership and supervision of the staff of the University police department as a member of the leadership staff assigned to a specific operational areas of responsibility. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Supervise the deployment and sterility sweeps conducted by canine unit 2. Provide proper facilities and area for dog including a fenced yard and appropriate area within the home for kenneling K-9 during non-working hours 3. Responsible for dog’s health and safety at all times 4. May be exposed to airborne particles, body fluids and chemical solutions 5. Must live within 40 miles of Kennesaw State University’s Kennesaw campus 6. Responsible for maintenance of all special equipment issued including motor vehicle 7. Responsible for all canine training and keeping dog at acceptable level of readiness 8. Subject to call-out anytime outside regularly scheduled shift hours including days, nights, weekends and approved leave Required Qualifications Educational Requirements High School diploma or equivalent and at least 21 years of age Other Required Qualifications Current, valid and unrestricted Georgia driver's license Current Basic Law Enforcement Certification from the Georgia P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training Council) or the ability to obtain certification within one (1) year of employment Required Experience Four (4) years of sworn law enforcement experience including one (1) year experience as a Field Training Officer, Corporal, or Detective DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Ability to walk and/or run in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time • Ability to work in environments that may include loud noises, urgent time deadlines, uncontrollable interruptions, and the need to frequently shift attention • Ability to lift at least 60 pounds daily (average weight of a police canine) • Willing and able to expend time and energy to achieve and maintain a high level of proficiency as a canine handler • Willing to accept hours and days assigned by Special Operations • Position requires a flexible work schedule dependent on special events or operational needs of the department including very long hours, working both days, nights, and weekends during a one-week period Equal Employment Opportunity Kennesaw State University is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
