FREMONT, CA — Two Fremont men have been sentenced to federal prison on weapons charges. 36-year-old Jason Knecht of Fremont was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison after his involvement in a pursuit with Fremont Police detectives, according to the police department. At the time, Knecht was wanted on outstanding warrants. Detectives also located a stolen and loaded firearm in his possession at the time of his arrest. 35-year-old Kristopher Sylvester of Fremont was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after being involved in several major crime sprees in Alameda County and Santa Clara County. During the crime sprees, Sylvester was arrested 3 separate times for possession of firearms, as well as for multiple counts of commercial burglary. Sylvester was suspected of breaking into numerous Fremont schools, stealing dozens of cars from a car rental facility in Santa Clara County, as well as fleeing from Santa Clara Police on the wrong side of the freeway. The US Attorney's Office and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) reached out to FPD and charged the men with federal firearms crimes, and they were subsequently convicted in federal court, police said in a release. Both Sylvester and Knecht also have state charges pending regarding these crime sprees.
