Press release from Drivers For Survivors: Nov. 23, 2020 Drivers For Survivors (DFS) is presently facing a major financial challenge. We have been struggling to deal with the loss of a $140,000 annual government grant. This income stream covered close to half of our operating costs. Shortly after the loss of this revenue, COVID-19 forced us to reschedule our signature fundraising gala from April to a virtual event in August. All of our other fundraising events for 2020 have been canceled as well. Because we deal with vulnerable clients, we have had to rethink everything we do to maximize client and volunteer driver safety. We have streamlined our day-to-day operations to try to make our limited financial resources get us through this incredibly challenging time. With heavy hearts, we have made the difficult decision to close our program effective February 2021. With the loss of revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is impossible to keep this program going. The last rides given by DFS will be on January 31, 2021. We are proactively working with the City of Fremont's Ride-On Tri-City! Program to help connect our clients with alternative transportation services. The Ride-On Tri-City Program will work with all of our clients, including those that live outside of the Tri-City area, to make sure they are linked with other transportation options for their medical appointments as well as any other needs they may have. For more information, feel free to call 510-574-2053 or email [email protected]. We want to celebrate the significant impact DFS has had on the community: • Over 25,000 free rides provided • 300+ volunteer drivers giving rides and building friendships • Over 600 cancer patients helped We want to thank the volunteers, financial supporters and donors, medical providers, and staff who have made this incredible 10-year journey possible. You have made DFS a great success by helping those in need! We couldn't have done it without you!
