Description

Press release from the City of Westlake: October 7, 2020 Fire Prevention Week 2020: Serve Up Safety in the Kitchen As part of Fire Prevention Week, an initiative started by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the Ohio Division of State Fire Marshal has urged communities across the state to engage in educational outreach related to this year's theme, "Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen." The Ohio Fire Prevention Bureau recently launched a comprehensive Fire Prevention Week 2020 resources page with a host of educational resources, including information on preventing kitchen fires, smoke alarms safety, developing a home fire escape plan, educational videos from the IFE Vision 20/20 Project and more. Per the NFPA, cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries in the U.S. Some tips for preventing such incidents include:- Keep a close eye on what you're cooking; never leave cooking unattended.- Keep anything that can catch fire — oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, towels or curtains — at least three feet away from your stovetop. - Be on alert. If you are sleepy or have consumed alcohol, don't use the stove or stovetop. This press release was produced by the City of Westlake. The views expressed here are the author's own.
