Press release from the City of Shakopee: November 5, 2020 More than 22,000 ballots were cast in Shakopee for the 2020 General Election – with a record number of voters voting early by absentee. While counts remain unofficial, Scott County Elections Office said Wednesday a preliminary total of 22,601 Shakopee voters cast a ballot, representing 92.7 percent of all registered voters in Shakopee (as of 7 a.m. Nov. 3). The ballot total included 11,842 absentee ballots – 52.4 percent of all ballots collected. The City of Shakopee had 24,377 registered voters as of 7 a.m. Nov. 3. Voters could also register at the polls on Election Day. Municipal Election Results City voters re-elected incumbents Matt Lehman and Jay Whiting to the City Council. Lehman tallied 9,627 votes (30.02 percent), followed by Jay Whiting's 5,476 votes (17.07 percent). Both candidates were elected to four-year terms. CITY COUNCIL (ELECT 2) - Unofficial Results Vote Totals Matt Lehman 9,627 Jay Whiting 5,476 Jim Dulaney Jr. 4,972 Mike Luce 4,385 Tyle Pautsch 3,694 Nurul Arif Khan 3,681 Write-In 238 Ballot Question 1 regarding abolishing the Shakopee Public Utilities Commission was rejected with 58.66 percent of voters voting to keep the utilities commission an independent municipal entity. All vote totals are unofficial until canvassed by the City Council. The council will hold a special canvassing meeting at 6:20 p.m. Nov. 12.
