LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Two more Laguna Beach residents have tested positive for coronavirus on Monday, bringing that total to 34, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. Orange County is entering the fifth week of the coronavirus shutdown. A recommendation for all to "stay at home" was shared by Gov. Gavin Newsom, Friday. The recommendation was meant to encourage all citizens to observe the mandatory social distancing rules and help flatten the curve, even as we were told to expect worsening news over the next 14 days. "This disease can impact anyone," Newsom wrote on Twitter. "Stay home. Take this seriously." Orange County Health Care has asked that residents keep non-essential trips out of the house to a minimum over the next two weeks. This page will be updated throughout the week, as we navigate what it means to be truly "shut down." Please refresh for the latest updates. On Monday afternoon, 51 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Orange County. This number was down for the first time in April. No additional deaths have been reported since Sunday, as a total of 14 Orange County residents have died as a result of the virus since the epidemiologists began recording data. As of Monday afternoon, the number of residents in the hospital declined, while the number of ICU patients increased. On Monday, 130 residents were hospitalized and of those, 75 are currently in intensive care, OC Healthcare reported. The hospitals where people have been admitted into care were not released. There are 23 hospitals reporting data to OC Healthcare out of 25 eligible hospitals. "Numbers fluctuate day-by-day due to changes in patient conditions," according to OC Healthcare's website. All data is "gathered daily, at one point in time." An additional 556 patients were tested Sunday, bringing the total of Orange County residents tested for coronavirus to 10,489, according to OC Healthcare. Public health labs and commercial labs have the ability to test 950 more people on Monday, they say.
