Come Learn Results From First-Ever Santa Rosa County Quality Of Life Survey At Free Open To The Public Event Quint Studer, founder of the Studer Community Institute, shares the first-ever Santa Rosa County Quality of Life survey results at a CivicCon Town Hall, The event is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 18 at the County Commission Chambers, Santa Rosa County Administrative Building, 6495 Caroline Street, Milton, FL. This first Santa Rosa survey was done by the same polling company and in the same format as the Escambia County Quality of Life survey, which has been done annually since 2008. Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy conducts Quality of Life surveys in communities across the country. The results are an indicator of what issues the community ranks as important as well as answering a key question: “Generally, do you think that our community is heading in the right direction, or are things on the wrong track?” The event is free and open to all. CivicCon is a partnership of the Pensacola News Journal and the Studer Community Institute to make our community a better place to live, grow, work and invest through smart planning and civic conversation. It includes a speaker series that brings top experts from around the country to share best practices in various ways communities get better for their residents. It also conducts town halls open to the public on important local topics from time to time. The nonprofit Studer Community Institute (SCI) believes in improving the quality of life for all people in the diverse communities it serves – one child, one person at a time. Its primary work is around helping children be prepared for kindergarten; creating educated and engaged citizens; and creating jobs by mentoring entrepreneurs and business leaders to develop the skills needed for business success. These together are key elements of building a vibrant and engaged community. The Quality of Life survey is one important measure to understand the progress of the community in the eyes of those that live here. Mason-Dixon Polling defines Quality of Life “as an individual’s perception of their position in life in the context of the culture, community, and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns.” The survey includes standardized batteries of questions concerning the factors that contribute to and define the quality of life in the community—economic conditions, job security, educational opportunities, availability of cultural displays and entertainment, safety, clean and healthy environment, a sense of community and welcoming, a shared vision and understanding of future plans for community and economic development, and effective, competent government and community leadership that plans and executes. Participants who are interviewed are chosen randomly and accurately represent the actual demographic breakdown of a community. This includes the ratios of the respondents’ gender, race, age, political affiliation and area of residence, which mirror the county’s real statistics. The Quality of Life survey is an independent survey tool that was developed by Mason-Dixon Polling, an independent polling and communications firm with offices in Washington, D.C., and Jacksonville, FL. Mason-Dixon studies communities around the country and produced the categories and characteristics that people perceive as having the most impact on the quality of life. In most communities that do a Quality of Life Survey, it is supported by the local chamber or local government. Philanthropists Quint and Rishy Studer have paid for the Escambia County study since inception and has underwritten this first-ever Santa Rosa survey. The Santa Rosa County polling was done late in 2021. The Studer’s have no control over content or the results provided by the polling company. Quint Studer is Founder of the Studer Community Institute, a philanthropist and businessman. CivicCon is a joint program of the News Journal and the Studer Community Institute to make Pensacola a better place to live, grow, work and invest though civic conversations and smart planning.
