BURR RIDGE, IL — The governor's order to close indoor dining in DuPage County leaves Burr Ridge largely unaffected, the mayor said Friday in his weekly statement on the coronavirus. Mayor Gary Grasso said all but two of the village's restaurants are in Cook County, which has no indoor dining ban. (On Monday, after the mayor's announcement, an indoor dining ban was announced for suburban Cook County, effective Wednesday.) Grasso warned Cook County's positivity rate for the coronavirus continues to rise. As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 317 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up nine from the previous week, or a 3 percent increase. As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 29.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people, worse than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 18.7 in La Grange Park, 19.1 in Darien, 21 in Western Springs, 23.3 in Clarendon Hills, 24.1 in DuPage County, 25 in Elmhurst, 25.9 in Hinsdale, 29 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands) and 29.4 in suburban Cook County. As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 374,256, up 9 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 9,505 state residents. Nationally, 8.6 million people have caught the virus, up 6 percent from the week before. A total of 224,221 people have died from the virus in the United States.
