Description

Learn how to use iNaturalist to participate in the 2022 Scranton/Lackawanna Nature Challenge April 29 through May 2. Started in 2016 as a competition between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the City Nature Challenge (CNC) has grown into an international event, motivating people around the world to find and document wildlife in their cities. Run by the Community Science teams at the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the CNC is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to see not only what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal, but also which city can gather the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people in the event. The iNaturalist Training for the 2022 Scranton/Lackawanna Nature Challenge is made possible by the Lackawanna River Conservation Association, the IHM Center at Marywood University, and the Environmental Club at Marywood U. The Lackawanna River Conservation Association (LRCA) was created by local citizens in 1987 to promote the restoration and conservation of the Lackawanna River and its watershed resources in the great Northeast Pennsylvania.  The LRCA is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization promoting our river through education, public involvement, consensus building, partnerships and hands on opportunities for young and old. Since 1987, the LRCA has worked pro-actively with other community groups and public agencies to plan and promote projects which are addressing the issues of water pollution, recreation, community development, land and water conservation, public involvement with their river and watershed, and the public policy decision making which affects the river and watershed. We depend on the support and informed involvement of our fellow citizens.  Help us promote a revitalized Lackawanna River!
