GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Feb. 22. Feb. 16 A Garden City Plaza employee's identity was reportedly stolen and used to open an unauthorized cell phone account. Firefighters and police officers responded to a residence for a fire call and determined the cause to be burnt food.Feb. 17 Broken glass was found on the roadway on Tremont Street. DPW was notified for clean-up.Three motorists were cited for excessive speed in a school zone on New Hyde Park Road.Feb. 18 Officers responded to the Nassau Boulevard railroad crossing for a damaged railroad gate.A vehicle owner reports his license plates were either lost or stolen sometime in January.Officers investigated a report of harassing phone calls being received at a Garden City business.Feb. 19 Officers responded to Cherry Valley Avenue and Stewart Avenue for a traffic light outage.While patrolling Franklin Avenue, an officer discovered strong winds had damaged the exterior sheathing to a building under construction.A driver on Clinton Road and Pine Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and tinted windows.A driver on Clinton Road was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.Feb. 20 A resident's identity was reportedly stolen and used to apply for fraudulent credit card accounts. Police and firefighters responded to a 7th Street restaurant for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be oven smoke. Officers and the Water Department responded to Kellum Place for a water main break.A police dispatcher received a hang-up 911 call from a cell phone. The called was pinged to a location in Lawrence. Nassau County police were then notified to respond.A person reportedly received threatening messages from another person via social media.A driver on Franklin Avenue and 5th Street was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.A driver on Rockaway Avenue by St. Paul's School was charged with suspended registration and excessive speed. A driver on Stewart Avenue at Harrison Street was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.Feb. 21 Police received a report of two people trespassing inside St. Paul's. Upon investigation, Officers observed two men, ages 23 and 19, in the building. They were apprehended and charged with trespassing.A driver on Clinton Road at Rainbow Place was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.A village food market reported a woman entered the store and stole multiple food items valued at $190. Feb. 22 Two men reportedly entered a 7th Street store and stole a bottle of whiskey. A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and headlamps not activated.Police investigated a report of a Garden City Plaza business receiving harassing phone calls.A driver on New Hyde Park Road and Clinch Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
