Your Arlington Last Updated: 24 February 2022 Written by Bob Sprague A music teacher and her former student, with years of connection in Arlington, have joined voices with a collaboration called Bridges. Torch Light Music School and Colleen Nicholas Music Studios present at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb 27, at the Burren in Somerville. Tickets are $15 at the door. The schools' top 10 students will share songs and meet each other for songwriting and performance resources -- and "to have a blast singing again," in person. Maura Lynch, who with Clyde Ford opened Mo-Co Music/Torch Light Music School in 2001, said her history with Nicholas runs deep. "I was her music teacher at St. Agnes School," Lynch said. "She was in my second-grade music class on Sept. 11, when the twin towers fell." Beyond that, Colleen had her first teaching internship and solo singing experience at Mo-Co Music as well as solo cantoring experience at St. Agnes Church in eighth grade. Coincidentally, the first anniversary of Nicholas's music school opening in Burlington was July 1, 2021 -- the same date as Torch Light's 20th anniversary. In upper left in photo, Nicholas greets Lynch, right. "We are now creating shows together, planning on writing originals," Lynch told YourArlington. She has hired Colleen as a professional cantor at St. Richard parish in Danvers, where Lynch is the music director. They will be collaborating on programs for the confirmation students. For her part, Nicholas commented: "I am so excited to collaborate with Maura, who sparked my love of music 20 years ago. Maura is a big part of who I am today."
