The property was initially called the Hackberry Creek Ranch. By 1959, the ranch had grown to over 6,000 acres and was renamed El Ranchito de los Colinas. By 1982, the city had grown to about 350 businesses, including United Technologies Building Systems, Burroughs Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric Sales, TeleVideo Systems, and Technicare Corporation. In the early part of the century, Las Colinas grew steadily and became an important area for corporations. Land sales soared to $124 million in 1984 and dropped to $96 million in 1985. In 1986, Las Colinas Corporation's parent company, the Southland Financial Corporation, was dealing with enormous debt and was in danger of foreclosure. In the late 1980s, the community had a difficult time with its construction and occupancy rates. As the community began to grow, it became more expensive. The development of the airport took place in the 1950s, and the community's skyline is symmetrical and immaculate. It is the perfect city, the Eden of free enterprise and capitalism. It will change your life forever! The first phase of Las Colinas was a joint venture between the Southland Financial Corporation and the Las Colinas Corporation. Its name changed when the city was officially completed. The city's first landmark, the Las Colinas Country Club, was completed, and Northgate Village followed. The area's southern end saw the development of University Hills Village and the town of Northgate Village. Later, additional acreage was donated for a park near the Elm Fork Trinity River. The city's skyline is symmetrical and the area is just 15 minutes away from downtown Dallas. It is an oasis of capitalism, free enterprise, and capitalism. Residents can walk to one of four championship golf courses and then take a short drive back to their homes. But for several years, the town's occupancy rate was relatively low and laggard compared to the rest of Dallas' real estate market.
