BURR RIDGE, IL — A man walked behind the counter at a Burr Ridge convenience store, displayed a knife and took cash from the register Sunday morning, according to a Burr Ridge police news release. The armed robbery happened about 7:30 a.m. at Shell gas station, 16W601 S. Frontage Road, police said.
The man left in a blue Ford Explorer, which officers determined had been stolen earlier in the morning.
Burr Ridge police distributed photos from surveillance cameras to area police departments. Lyons police recognized that the suspect matched a similar description from a similar armed robberies Nov. 11 in Burbank and Nov. 14 in Lyons, according to the release.
Lyons police have arrested a suspect, and Burr Ridge detectives said they are continuing to investigate. Burr Ridge police said more information would be released if charges are filed.
According to an Elmhurst police report, an officer positively identified a driver in Elmhurst early Monday morning as being the one involved in robbing the Burr Ridge convenience store and ramming a Lyons police car. Elmhurst officers tried to stop the driver, but the driver sped away heading east on Interstate 290, police said.
