BURR RIDGE, IL — In the last week, Burr Ridge saw a 12 percent spike in the total number of coronavirus cases since the pandemic's beginning. The week before that, the rate of increase was 16 percent.
As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 506 cases, up by 55 from a week earlier, according to county health authorities. The virus has infected about 5 percent of the town's population.
Burr Ridge experienced one more coronavirus-related death in the last week. Since the start of the pandemic, the village has had 25 such deaths, many of them at nursing homes.
As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 47 coronavirus cases per thousand people, worse than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 32.9 in La Grange Park, 35.2 in Darien, 36.4 in Western Springs, 38 in Hinsdale, 38.6 in Clarendon Hills, 41.6 in Elmhurst and DuPage County, 46.3 in suburban Cook County and 50.4 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 656,298, up 14.4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 11,056 state residents.
Nationally, 12 million people have caught the virus, up 11.1 percent from the week before. A total of 255,076 people have died from the virus in the United States.
