BURR RIDGE, IL — In recent times, Burr Ridge police have handled calls involving a fireworks complaint, check fraud, a person on break arousing suspicion, a dog's death, a loud dispute and a tree obstruction, among others. Here is information from the reports: Gunshots heard A person informed police about hearing sporadic gunshots in the past couple of hours near 91st Street and County Line Road about 9:30 p.m. Nov. 14. An officer said he heard a few shots or fireworks when he was on the far south end of Drew Avenue. They sounded like they were coming from southeast of that location. Police were unable to find anyone in the area. About an hour later, the same officer assisted Willow Springs police to find the source of the noise near Winding Trails Drive. They found a man setting off fireworks in his driveway for a Diwali celebration. Check fraud A business in the 7000 block of High Grove Boulevard informed police Nov. 16 that multiple checks were intercepted and fraudulently cashed after being picked up by the mail carrier sometime after Sept. 16. The sum of the checks was $23,246. An officer referred the business to a Postal Service investigator. A number of Burr Ridge businesses have reported similar experiences in recent weeks. Out to lunch A business on Shore Drive reported that someone was inside his car every day in the no-parking zone. On Nov. 17, the driver told an officer that he works on Shore Court and sits in his car during his lunch break and does not want to be at his workplace. The officer told the man that it was a no-parking zone and that he needed to find a new place to take his breaks. Long wait for appointment Police received a call about a suspicious car shortly before 9:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at Loyola Center for Health, 6800 N. Frontage Road. The woman said she was waiting for an 8 a.m. appointment the next day. Loyola security said she could wait in the parking lot overnight. Carbon monoxide alarm A resident on Cascade Court informed authorities Nov. 17 that his carbon monoxide detector went off at 4:30 a.m. Firefighters found that the home had minimal levels of carbon monoxide throughout the house and requested Nicor to respond. The resident said he was not ill and declined medical attention. Dog's death An officer spoke with a resident on Park Avenue on Nov. 18 and told her that her 14-year-old dog was not poisoned and most likely died of old age. Officers help Two Burr Ridge officers pushed a driver's broken-down 2003 Honda from Route 83 and South Frontage Road to a nearby Shell gas station about 1 p.m. Nov. 18. And employee said it could remain there until the owner made arrangements to have it removed. Dispute A man and two women were yelling at each other about 2 p.m. Nov. 16 outside the Marriott, 1200 Burr Ridge Parkway. They sped away in two separate cars toward County Line Road. The staff said the people had been in a room at the hotel, but did not have a reservation for the next night. Tree obstruction A tree was obstructing traffic at 15 Lake Ridge Club Court about noon Nov. 15. Officers tried to move the tree, but were unsuccessful. They broke off the larger branches to clear a lane for traffic. A caller was told to tell her homeowners association about the tree because it was a private drive. Park damage Pleasant Dale Park District reported that someone had spray-painted two trash cans and a door to the press box over the weekend of Nov. 14 at a park on Wolf Road. Solicitor Police received a complaint about a door-to-door solicitor about 6 p.m. Nov. 18 in the 8300 block of Park Avenue. The person was working for Great American Exteriors. An officer informed the solicitor he needed to get a permit from the village to continue. He left without any problems.
