Here are the top 3 stories today in Scottsdale: Scottsdale Community College offers free Income Tax Assistance (VITA) on the campus through April 13. Elderly, limited English-speaking individuals and those making less than $58,000 annually can receive free income tax preparation, according to NorthEast Valley News. Volunteers approved by the IRS will prepare returns at BUS 103, 9000 E. Chaparral Rd. in Scottsdale. The program is open from 4 – 8 p.m. through April 13 and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. through April 9. (Northeast Valley News) Scottsdale's first responder scholarship program launched this year to help trainees in both the fire and police departments to afford to pay the bills while training at their particular academy. Your Valley asked Scottsdale Deputy Fire Chief Adam Hoster to describe the SFD cadets' program. Hoster said, "This is a great opportunity for...SFD cadets [to] apply for this scholarship [and] set their sights [on] higher education...this scholarship is really meant for motivated cadets to obtain their EMT certification and possibly their AA degree from a community college in fire science."
