BURR RIDGE, IL — Recently, Burr Ridge police handled cases involving a refrigerator repairman, a panic alarm, a suspicious taxi, check fraud, someone searching for popcorn and a woman upset with a food drive. Here is information from the Burr Ridge police reports: Wrong address A man showed up at the door of a house about 2:30 p.m. Nov. 20 in the 11700 block of Shag Bark Court and said he was there to repair a refrigerator. The homeowner, however, did not schedule an appointment. The man left the area in a white SUV and did not enter the home. An officer found the man parked on Deerview Court. He works for Diamond Factory Service and had a valid work order for a house on Shag Bark Court. He notified his supervisor of his mistake of going to the wrong address. He said he did not feel comfortable coming back to the area, and he left without any problems. Panic alarm A clerk at the Shell gas station, 16W601 S. Frontage Road, hit the panic alarm about 12:30 a.m. Nov. 21 after he became worried about a customer who was walking through the store for an extended amount of time. An officer spoke with the customer, who was in his 1978 Chevrolet in the parking lot. He said he had no issues in the gas station or with the clerk. The officer could find no signs of a problem. Suspicious taxi Police were called because of a man in a parked car shortly before noon Nov. 20 at Loyola Center for Health, 6800 N. Frontage Road. Security thought the man was watching children in the parking lot. He said he was picking up a customer, saying he was a taxi driver. He showed the electronic taxi reservation. Check fraud A business in the 100 block of Shore Drive reported two forged checks from its business account for $7,000, but they were later declined. The business also had a check that was altered after it went into the mail. The report was made Nov. 20. Searching for popcorn An officer found a car parked in a no parking area about 9:30 p.m. Nov. 20 near Shore Drive and 83rd Street. The officer spoke with the driver, who said he was looking for Double Good Popcorn in Burr Ridge on his GPS. The officer showed the driver how to get to Double Good. Upset with food drive A woman was upset Nov. 21 after she dropped off food at a church for its food drive, but it was never collected. The woman asked for a food pantry suggestion. An officer gave her a number and address for HCS Family Services in Hinsdale.
