Press release from the Woburn Public Library: February 26, 2022 Few high-school activities are as stress-inducing as the college search. As spring draws near, it is time for families to tackle this challenge. Dr. Karen Droisen, experienced tutor and college counselor, will provide a chronological overview of the application timeline, from developing the first school list, to writing the personal statement, to clicking the "submit" button. By the end of the presentation, the application process will be demystified and laid out as a manageable and exciting journey. Dr. Karen Droisen works with high-school students and their families in the Woburn area and remotely. She graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University, with a major in English. After Barnard, she earned her MA and PhD in English at the University of Virginia. Dr. Droisen went on to become an assistant professor of English at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she taught courses on writing and literature. In total, she taught college students for 11 years. Since then, she has been a fundraiser at Boston-area and international non-profits. Dr. Droisen returned to her first love – education – in 2015 and has been working with high-school and college students ever since.   This is a hybrid event for families of high school students.
