STRONGSVILLE, OH — The Strongsville High girls soccer team went undefeated and won a state championship on Friday. Now, the city is celebrating their accomplishments. Mayor Tom Perciak declared Monday Lady Mustangs Day in Strongsville, in recognition of the team's many accomplishments. The team and its coaches were honored during Monday's City Council meeting. The Lady Mustangs bested the Olentangy Braves, 3-1, in the championship game played at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus. This was the team's 20th win on the season, giving them a perfect 20-0 record. "Congratulations to the 2020 Strongsville High School Girls Varsity Soccer team and their Division I State Championship. During an imperfect year, the one thing that remained constant was the work ethic, drive, and determination of our girls soccer team. To finish a season undefeated in any sport at any level is almost impossible, but these student-athletes were able to achieve a "perfect season," said Denny Ziegler, Strongsville High athletic and activities director. The Strongsville Lady Mustangs have won five state championships in soccer. This year's team was led by head coach Todd Church. I could not be more proud of the 22 girls who competed in the state tournament, and the coaches and the rest of the girls soccer program who helped prepare the varsity team members for this moment. We are proud of the way this team carried themselves throughout the season and their positive representation of the Strongsville community, our District, their families and friends, and the Greater Cleveland Conference," Ziegler said.
