Watch: Richfield Police Help Save Dog's Life During House Fire

RICHFIELD, MN — A dog in Richfield is on her way to recovery Friday after inhaling smoke during a house fire that claimed the lives of other pets in the home. Dot, an Alaskan malamute, was among at least two other pets that Richfield police officers removed Thursday from the burning home in the 7600 block of Nicollet Avenue. The Richfield Police Department took to YouTube to share body camera footage of the officers' life-saving actions. In the footage, officers can be seen carrying pets from the smoke-filled home, performing CPR on them and administering oxygen. Near the end of the video, Dot stands and is tearfully greeted by her owner, Jerred Kincaid, before being loaded into a police car and taken to a veterinary office for treatment. In a social media post, police said "numerous pets" unfortunately died from smoke inhalation as a result of the fire. "Many of our officers have a strong passion for animals — we were humbled and honored to help this family in need," the department's post read. "We are extremely proud to serve our community and all of its members." A GoFundMe account was created to help the Kincaid family cover Dot's medical bills and pay for repairs in their home. "The Kincaid family (Jerred and Sara) had a house fire today and lost their furbabies except Dot," GoFundMe organizer Stacy Miller wrote. "Sara and Jerred have always helping out with so many rescues and people in need. Please help if you can. This won't bring back their furbabies, but it can help them pay any vet bills for Dot and anything they need immediately." On Friday, Miller posted an update to the GoFundMe page that Dot had been released from veterinary care and was with the Kincaids at a friend's home. "Thank you for help with monetary donations so they can spend some time off work and focusing on what items insurance will not cover," Miller wrote. "We are so blessed to have this community during these heartbreaking times, you are all amazing." As of Friday afternoon, the GoFundMe campaign had raised $11,818 toward the $15,000 goal.
