A Proper Garden Tea Celebrating Victorian Textiles, Treasures, Tools and Trades Visit the Merrick House veranda in frock or finery for an afternoon of tea and treats, talks, demonstrations, displays, special exhibits and a quick round of croquet or graces*!Completed in 1910, the Coral Gables Merrick House is home to many fine examples of furniture and fabrics of the Victorian era (1837 to 1901). In the House (2:00-3:15 pm): House Linen Collection; Special Exhibit of Antique Sewing Tools and Trinkets; Samplers on Display On the Porch (3:00-5:00 pm): Short Talks of Tea Traditions, Fabric Care, Knitting History; Demonstrations of Needlepoint, Crochet, Counted-Thread Embroidery, Quilling**; Displays of Quilts, Layettes, Needlework; Guess-the-Gadget Contest In the Garden (2:00-5:00 pm): Tea and Traditional Treats (Sandwiches, Scones & Sweets); Croquet & Graces; Purveyors of Vintage Housewares & Collectibles*** *Invented in France in the early 1800s, graces is a toss & catch game with a hoop and two dowels. **Likely originating in Ancient Egypt, quilling is an ornamental craft using coiled paper strips. ***Maria's Eclectic Finds; Pioneer Treasures; Sew Original Quilts & Such; Handiwork by The Villagers Sunday, March 27 2:00 - 5:00 pm $45 per person Proceeds benefit ongoing preservation and restoration projects at the Coral Gables Merrick House.
