Description
WESTLAKE, OH — Police stopped a drunken driver after they hit a car and kept driving.
At 1:15 a.m. on Dec. 5, a caller said there had been a car crash on Detroit Road, near Columbia Road. One of the drivers had refused to stop and was driving onto I-90 east. The car that had been hit followed the driver onto the highway and gave police updates on its whereabouts.
Officers caught up to the car that left the scene and stopped it in Westlake. The driver was a 25-year-old Strongsville resident. He did not remember being involved in a car accident, police said.
The Strongsville driver appeared intoxicated, police said, so he was field tested and then taken into custody. He later tested 2.5 times over the legal limit for alcohol.
The driver has been charged with operating a vehicle impaired, failure to maintain assured clear distance, hit-ski and prohibited breath alcohol content.
The car that was hit by the Strongsville driver was OK. One of the passengers in that car had to be taken to a hospital for treatment, but their injuries were described as not life threatening, police said.
