Have you ever wanted to learn about foraging? Manny's has brought in an expert to answer your questions. Join us! Foraging has become a popular activity across the Bay Area and the nation. So, what is foraging and how do I do it? Can anyone just go forage? Where am I able to go to harvest? How do I make sure I don't die? Why has foraging become so popular lately? Foraging can be a form of self sustenance and the rejection of a consumeristic culture. In a lot of ways, it is becoming a form of resistance. Sometimes it's just an engaging activity. Be a part of the growing conversation on foraging here in the Bay Area. Join us at Manny's. The structure of this event will be about 45 minutes of discussion with a presentation by Owen Janson followed by a Q&A session where YOU can ask a question. We hope to help solicit a more collaborative discussion and hear the diverse stories in our city. Manny's never turns away anyone for lack of funds. About 🍄 Owen Janson 🍄: Owen is a computational biologist, aspiring ethnomycologist, and mushroom-hunter interested in all things fungal. While learning how to identify wild mushrooms as a kid growing up in the Bay Area, he became fascinated by the intersection of mushrooms, foraging, and society and culture. After graduating from college, left the US on a fellowship to study modern and traditional mushroom foraging systems in 6 countries across Eurasia. Returning home, he is excited to become a part of the growing interest in mushroom foraging that is gripping the Bay Area.
