4 Killed In Wrong-Way Crash On I-35W In Richfield

RICHFIELD, MN — Four people in their 20s were killed and another person suffered life-threatening injuries in a wrong-way crash that happened on northbound Interstate 35W Saturday night. Just before 10 p.m., a Nissan Murano was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic on I-35W near 66th Street, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. A GMC Terrain was going north on the northbound when the two vehicles collided. Authorities say it's currently unknown if alcohol was involved in the crash. The driver of the Nissan — Alfredo Torres, 21, of Saint Paul — died in the crash. It's not clear if he was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the GMC Terrain, and two passengers, were killed: Briana Marisa Vazquez, 25, of Watertown, SD (Driver) — Seat belt: yesTyler Joseph Fried, 27, of Vermillion, SD — No seat beltHassan Aquil Abdulmalik, 28, of Bloomington, MN— Seat belt: yesA fourth passenger — Alaura Danielle Fried, 25, of Lakeville — suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Hennepin Healthcare. Fried was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
